1991 was a thought provoking year for the Village of Glenview. The Glenview Reuse Planning Group had assembled to make plans for the land that the Glenview Naval Air Station had occupied and closed. Move the clock up to 1999 and Cambridge Homes was working with the redevelopment board. They purchased 34.7 acres of land in the northeast section of The Glen. This prominent location was right in the center of numerous neighborhood venues

The Cambridge Sign (pictured top left) welcomes residents and guests to the Cambridge neighborhood in The Glen. The community starts at the northeast corner of Patriot Boulevard and West Lake Avenue and continues east to Leigh Avenue. Patriot Boulevard is the west boundary and the nature center borders at the north. On the opposite side (to the south) lies Gallery Park. Lake Glenview is a 142 acre park at the center.

“Incredible” is the best way to define what Gallery Park has to offer. (Picture left and second from the top is a map of Gallery Park. It shows the location of all areas in and around the park.)

The 45 acre lake is surrounded by winding trails, which never display a complete view of the water from any single one point. The fingers of land and bays off the lake create a domain for exploring and recreation. Shallow overhangs and submerged trees provide a healthy fish environment. Partially submerged trees provide a place for birds and turtles.

There are many ways the public can use the park, along with the nearby Park Center, Attea Middle School, athletic fields as well as Lake Glenview. Walking and running trails with your friends or your dog enhance Gallery Park. The park also features tennis courts, soccer field which is also used for large corporate functions.

Pictured to the left in the middle is Little Bear Garden in Gallery Park. Little Bear Garden is on the corner of Chestnut Avenue and Patriot Boulevard.

Kids love to be in this child’s heaven since it offers so much to do for both kids and their parents. For starters it’s completely fenced-in. Thats great for runaway toddlers or escapees. Little Bear Gardens offers kids and parents washrooms, water fountains, play equipment, sprinklers, benches and tables for those who want to picnic. The little hedge maze, with benches at its center is a favorite for all.

Pictured to the left, second from the bottom is the Metra Station. It is conveniently located just east of Cambridge.
