The 15 year history of the ponds that grace the northeast border of Landings in The Glen, were originally built by the Village of Glenview.  These ponds are used for water retention.   Three retention ponds were used to hold water from three different areas, the shopping center on Lake Avenue and Patriot Boulevard, Vi the retirement center west of Landings and Landings in The Glen.

Concord LLC. Constructed the Landings and when finished building the development gave the task of landscaping the ponds to the home owners association at the Landings.

Homeowners Association Responsibility to the Village of Glenview

The association had a meeting and discussed the future of the retention ponds.  After weeks of discussion the group decided that the retention ponds needed professional landscaping.  The plan was simple, contact companies who do this type of landscaping and have them visit the ponds and explain what they will do and what was the cost.

When the right company was chosen which was Acres Landscape, the biggest concern was who was going to pay for this huge under taking.  The decision was made first and foremost to meet with the village to find out the responsibility of the village, Vi and the shopping center.  Lo and behold the costs were the responsibility of the Landings in The Glen.  The village of Glenview owned the ponds but passed on helping when it came to money.

Homeowners in the Landings Reach in Their Pocket

A letter was sent out to the 143 homeowners multiple times to let everyone know the decision the board had made and what the cost would be as a special assessment.  Two meetings were planned at the Park Center to unveil the landscape plan.  High ranking officials with landscape architects and horticulturists from Acres met with the board and any homeowners who attended.

Acres laid out a plan that kept with the natural habitat of The Glen.  The Prairie style was what the village had planned for The Glen.  The pictures above are from the end of December.  Please remember this article.  In late spring you will see how the ponds were transformed into pure beauty.

The homeowners have been extremely grateful to the board for pursuing this task of finding the right landscape company and getting an adequate price. The ponds have had a metamorphose and today they are unsurpassed in loveliness.

We are proud of the effort of Acres.  They continue their journey weekly taking care of what they helped us create.
