Landings in The Glen In Glenview Ponds

I am delighted to send this Blog out during late summer of 2016 and compare the pictures of one of my first blogs.  I had comments about the pictures being uninteresting and now we can compare the beauty of the ponds from last December of 2015 to September of 2016. It’s extremely exciting to see how far we have come in nine months.

The 15 Year History Of The Glen Ponds

The 15 year history of the ponds that grace the northeast border of Landings in The Glen, were originally built by the Village of Glenview.  The ponds are used for water retention.   Three retention ponds were used to hold water from three different areas, the shopping center on Lake Avenue and Patriot Boulevard, Vi the retirement center west of Landings and Landings in The Glen.

Concord LLC. Constructed the Landings and when finished building the development gave the task of landscaping the ponds to the homeowners association at Landings in The Glen.

The association called a meeting to discuss the future of the retention ponds.  After weeks of debating the board made the decision that the retention ponds needed professional landscaping and capital to pay for the improvement.  The plan was based on finding the right company to landscape the ponds based on The Glen landscape plan and making sure the cost was within the budget set aside by the homeowners association.

When the right company was chosen which was Acres Landscape, the biggest concern was how would we pay for the project. The decision was made first and foremost to meet with the village to find out the responsibility of the village, Vi and the shopping center.  Lo and behold the costs were the responsibility of the Landings in The Glen homeowners.  The village of Glenview owned the ponds but passed on helping when it came to money.

Homeowners in the Landings Reach in Their Pocket

A letter was sent out to the 143 homeowners multiple times to let everyone know the decision the board had made and what the cost would be as a special assessment.  Two meetings were planned at the Park Center to unveil the landscape plan.  High ranking officials, landscape architects and horticulturists from Acres met with the board and the homeowners at Park Center in The Glen in Glenview.

Acres laid out a plan that kept with the natural habitat of The Glen.  The Prairie style was what the village had planned for The Glen.  The pictures in this blog show the landscaping in December of 2015 and September of 2016.

The homeowners have been extremely grateful to the board for pursuing this task of finding the right landscape company and getting a fair price for the work that was done. The ponds have had a metamorphose and today they are unsurpassed in loveliness.

We are appreciative of the work of Acres.  They continue their journey weekly taking care of what they helped us create.
